Known Issues:

Arrows on Select Time dialog box: If you go into Details for the a transaction and tap on the time to change it, the Select Time dialog box will come up. The up and down arrow will change the highlighted number. If you tap on the AM or PM, the number will still be highlighted but not selected so the arrows won't work.
Workaround: Either set the time first and then select AM of PM or just tap back on the number you want to change to select it again.

Tax Rate: If you do a transaction and set the tax rate last, it does not save the tax rate. Also, it saves 7.75% in the drop-down list even if you never use it.
Workaround: If you set the tax rate first and then do the rest of the transaction and then tap on the tax button, it saves the tax rate.

Check number: If you don't set an account before tapping on the Details button and then set it on the Details screen, the check number function doesn't work. Tapping on the Num button doesn't show the next check number and if you enter a number, it is not saved.
Workaround: Make sure to set the account before going to the Details screen.

Manual payday: When you go to the expenses screen and check the box next to "From:", it sets the dates to match your pay period. If you have your pay period set to manual, it will set both dates to the same date.
Workaround: You can set the dates to whatever dates you want. If you leave the screen and come back, it will be reset and you will have to do it again.

Monthly and semi-monthly payday: There is a similar issue with Monthly and semi-monthly paydays. If you check the box next to "From:", it sets the dates to the right dates to match your pay period. To the right of the To date, there are a couple of arrows to cycle forward and back through your pay periods. Tapping the back arrow will show the previous period. The period will be the same number of days as the starting period. This works fine for weekly bi-weekly and 4-weekly pay periods since the number of days in the period never change, but will be off by a day or two for monthly and semi-monthly paydays as the number of days in the period change. The more you go back, the further off it will get.
Workaround: If you have your pay period set to monthly or semi-monthly, don't use the arrows to cycle back. Just change the dates manually. This problem is not likely to be fixed because, without going into all of the details, it would cause the program to not act as expected some of the time, or would require a large amount of code to be added to make it work right.

Non-Cumulative: When a shared or percentage sub-wallet is set to not be cumulative and it's in the negative when a payday triggers, it just adds the Budget amount to the Remain amount just like it would if it was set to be cumulative. Independent sub-wallets seem to work fine.
Workaround: When a payday triggers, make sure all the amounts in the Remain column match the amounts in the Budget column. If they don't, adjust them right on the main screen by highlighting the incorrect figure and changing it. I know, this really should not be neccesary. We will try to get to it when we can, but it might not be any time soon due to other commitments.

We are always happy to receive feedback from users and ideas for new features. In fact, that is the primary reason that Quik Budget has matured so quickly. Just send us email at

Following are a few common questions we receive:

Q: I tried to install QuikBudget.exe on my device but the Palm Install tool wouldn't let me. What do I do?

A: There are only two main types of files that you can install onto your device with the Palm Install Tool. They are .prc and .pdb files. Except for a couple of obscure file types, the install tool will try to put all other file types to the card since the device wouldn't know what to do with them. For example, if you tried to put an .mp3 music file or a .jpg picture file on your device, the install tool would only let you put them on the card.

Any time you download a Palm program and it is an .exe file, it is an installer. Just double-click on the file to run the installer. That will add the appropriate files to the Install Tool and it will install any necessary conduits and possibly put the manual or other help programs on your computer. One note: if the computer you sync to is not running Windows, you will not be able to use .exe files. They are for Windows only and will not work on Linux or Mac computers. If you are not sure, you are almost certainly running Windows. If you are running Linux or Mac, you can download just the .prc file from our download page.

Q: Where can I find a copy of the Quik Budget user's manual?

A: We have the manual online or you can download it from our download page.

Also, we now have a text only-version of the manual for those with wireless connected devices to be able to read the manual online while on the go. You can find it here: http://quiksense.com/Text/QB_Manual.htm

We also have the main Quik Budget page in text-only form here: http://quiksense.com/Text/

Q: Where can I get some typical budget numbers?

A:One of the best ways to find the numbers that are best for you is to start with everything set to zero. Then just use Quik Budget for a month or two and see how negative the numbers get. Also, you might want to read "Your Money or Your Life" (Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin, Penguin Books, $12.95.) This came highly recommended by a QB user.

Q: I recently registered Quik Budget for my palm and I love it. My wife and I are using Quik Budget and syncing with each other to keep a complete picture of our budget. Unfortunately the registration code I received only works with my Palm. Is there any way to get a second registration code at a reduced rate for family members?

A: We sell the second copy for $15.99 on our site. You can get purchase details here: http://www.QuikSense.com/QuikBudget/family.htm

Q: What are the Quik Budget databases and where are they stored on the computer I sync to?

A: The location of the files varies depending on what brand of device you have. Find out where the Palm Desktop software is installed. In that folder is a folder with your Palm user name or something similar to it. If your user name is John Smith, it will probably be smithj. Inside that folder is a folder called Backup. All of the databases and program files from your device are backed up here.

For Palm devices look here:
c:\palm\[username]\backup

For Handspring devices look here:
c:\Program Files\Handspring\[username]\backup

For Sony devices look here:
c:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\[username]\backup

Here is a list of the databases:

QBWalletsDB.pdb
QBCurrencyDB.pdb
QBExpensesDB.pdb
QCarDB.pdb

Q: Do I have to pay again if I install an upgrade for Quik Budget?

A:No, all upgrades are free.
